FRESHWAYS - UK'S 4TH FASTEST GROWING GROCERY SUPPLIER

Freshways can now add the title of the UK’s 4th fastest-growing grocery supplier to that of Britain\'s largest independent family-run dairy, according to a report in the September 2009 edition of the market-leading food and drink journal, The Grocer, where they finished ahead of a host of household names.

Those companies beaten by Freshways included the likes of the rapidly-expanding Tangerine Confectionery (who have snapped-up famous brands such as Butterkist Popcorn from Cadbury), William Jackson (the company behind Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings) and supermarket favourite Warburtons (who operate 14 wholesale bakeries nationwide). The Acton-based company were also the highest placed dairy in the list, powering ahead of Cotteswold (22nd), Belton Cheese (35th), Coombe Farm (39th) and Denhay Farms (43rd). And with a name like Freshways, it’s also interesting to note that suppliers of fresh goods dominated the rankings, including seven of the top ten and all of the top five.

The report concludes that the fresh sector has enjoyed such rapid growth due to the well-established players adding scale through acquisitions. Therefore, it’s a further testament to Freshways that their lofty position in the Top 50 has been achieved through organic growth, as opposed to mergers or take-overs. With their emphasis on quality and service, don’t bet against Freshways consolidating - or even improving upon - their placing in next year’s report.
